Scott  > Underwater > So-cal 2010 > Pelagic Jellies
Pelagic invertebrates from my 6th and 7th blue-water dives of the month in the open ocean. We had more amazing finds including this very rare juvenile Ragfish. Lots of siphonophores were also out, but not as many comb jellies or pelagic gastropods as last week. I can't wait to get out again soon.

Scott > Divers at depth, being pulled by their tethers. The tethers are attached to the anchor line, and prevent the divers from floating away from the boat.
Scott > juvenile Ragfish, Icosteus aenigmaticus, 4 inches long. This is most likely the first Ragfish ever seen underwater by divers. An adult was seen once by an ROV. The line at the top of the photo is a jellyfish tentacle. taken in 60ft of water in the open ocean, southern california.
Scott > Purple jelly, maybe Chrysaora colorata. You can see the juvenile Ragfish in this photo also.
